Adele likes vintage talons

Adele likes vintage talons

Adele prefers to have vintage-inspired nails.

While many stars have been delving into the world of contemporary nail art, Adele prefers to keep things more simple. Her manicurist Zoe Pocock explained the star looks to the olden days for inspiration.

"Adele likes a long oval nail. It's a vintage shape and length," she explained to the latest edition of UK InStyle.

Although the 24-year-old singer keeps her nail length and shape simple, she plays around with polish. Adele enjoys using nail wraps to give her fingers some zing and has made unusual requests when it comes to the colours she's wanted too.

"She asked for metallic strips for a recent appearance on a UK TV show; metallic gold wraps for a pre-Grammy show and for the Grammy Awards, we did Ciaté's Caviar Manicure using Ciaté's Paint Pot in Jewel [purple flecked with gold] on the tops of her nails," Zoe explained. "She also wanted a Louboutin effect, with red underneath the nail, so I slicked polish on the underside of her nails

Adele Buys Bargain Underwear

Adele Buys Bargain Underwear

Adele's underwear only costs £1.

The 'Rolling in the Deep' hitmaker - who is expecting her first child with partner Simon Konecki - is reportedly a "big fan" of budget high street chain Primark and particularly likes their "novelty" undergarments.

Author Chas Newkey-Burden writes in 'Adele: The Biography': "She is still the same girl she always has been. For instance, one day after she hit the big time she followed a visit to the Louis Vuitton store by going to knockdown-clothes favourite Primark.

Comment on this Article

"She is a big fan and loves the £1 knickers with all the novelty designs and funny jokes on them. But she knows she can only wear them once because they just fall apart."

However, the 24-year-old singer - whose album '21' is the biggest-selling record of the 21st century - is more than willing to splash out when buying handbags.

Chas added: "One of her most expensive models was made by Chanel and set her back over £2,000."

Adele is also a big fan of having false nails fitted as they make her feel womanly.

Chas explained: "She loves acrylic nails. She calls them her ghetto nails and says they make her feel like a woman."

Adele Is Flipping Crazy to Give Up Swearing (VIDEO)

Adele Is Flipping Crazy to Give Up Swearing (VIDEO)

Adele's pregnancy came as such a huge surprise, but I think it's safe to say everyone is pretty excited to see whether or not her baby inherits his or her famous mama's incredible set of pipes.

But while I'm sure she'll be thrilled if her little one winds up being able to belt it out in grand fashion just like she does -- the singer is fairly worried about her baby picking up one of her bad habits. And that's why in preparation for the arrival of her baby in September, Adele has vowed to give up swearing altogether.

And all I can say is, what the fu&% is she thinking? Doesn't she realize that this is one of the last times in her life when she doesn't have to worry about dropping f-bombs without her child imitating her?

Supposedly she thinks that her unborn baby is going to hear her muttering curse words under her breath and somehow pick them up in utero, and come out in the delivery room swearing like a sailor or something like that. But the truth is that the sounds a baby hears in the womb are honestly nothing more than muffled noises, so she ought to just go ahead and let loose and say whatever the hell she wants while she still can.

Because after that baby arrives, everything kind of goes in the crapper as far as being able to innocently swear goes. Yeah, yeah -- the first year really isn't all that big of deal as far as letting an occasional bad word slip out. But after her little one gets talking? That's when she's going to have to really be conscious of what she says -- because toddlers can't resist blurting out something they heard their mom say at the most inopportune time.

(Go ahead -- ask me about the time my son piped up from the back seat at around 2 1/2 years old and said, "Why is (so-and-so) a bitch, Mommy?" I dare you.)

There will be plenty of things Adele will be forced to give up after having this baby, so for the time being, she really ought to just relax and enjoy pregnancy, and all of the unexpected perks that go along with it. And if she spits out a dirty word here and there? Nobody's going to give a rat's ass.

Check out this video clip to see what else Adele is doing to get ready for the birth of her baby.

Alex Clare Dishes On Adele’s Compliments, Turning Down Beyonce

Alex Clare Dishes On Adele’s Compliments, Turning Down Beyonce

For Alex Clare, turning down Beyonce may be one of the best decisions of his life.

Before releasing his album, The Lateness of the Hour, the British caterer-turned-musician was approached by the hip-hop singer’s team for one of his tracks.

While he turned the singer down — in what he calls an “idiot” move — the gamble paid off with Clare’s album going on to gain international success, thanks in part to his second single “Too Close” featuring in Microsoft’s advertisement campaign and peaking at number four on the UK Singles Chart.

Celebuzz recently caught up with Clare, 26, to chat about how he’s handling success, and the praises he’s receiving from music icons like Adele.

How did you react when you heard that Beyonce was interested in your music?

It’s a big compliment. I mean, if you write music, it’s not much different if say the public likes the music. The fact that anyone likes your music if you’re a musician is a compliment.

Beyonce’s team wanted your song, “Relax My Beloved,” on her record. Tell us how it all went down.

I wrote it. I wrote the song in its entirety and, like an idiot, I should’ve probably just said, “Yeah. Go on, Beyonce, you can have it.” But I think if you write a song and you have a strong attachment to it, it’s kind of hard to give it up.

Would you ever write a song for Beyonce then?

Hell yeah! She’s an ultimate pop star. I will gladly go and write a song for her if she wanted another song. I will do that in a heartbeat.

Adele is a pretty big fan. How do you feel about the attention that you’re getting from these music icons?

It’s okay. It’s fine. People are just people you know. And people like music. I wouldn’t see the difference. Music is universal and doesn’t really discriminate. Anyone has the right to enjoy it.

You actually went to catering school before going into music.

I did. I studied cooking and then I left school. I left school at sixteen and then went to catering school and studied that for a few years.

Why music?

I think it should probably go the other way around. Music is very much a part of me and I was still playing in a band and writing music back then, but it takes a while to make any living out of making music.

Now, you’ve worked with big names like Diplo and Switch. Tell us a little bit about what the recording and writing process was like.

It’s basically working with two very talented kids with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)  – that’s basically how the whole process works. You have to lock them in a room and say, “Alright, now sit down, shut up and let’s make a song.” Then you actually make a song and it kind of works. I wrote probably 90 percent of the album before I met them. We shot around our ideas and then put the album together.

Do you think that you will ever collaborate with Diplo and Switch again?

I think it’s certainly a possibility.

What’s next for Alex Clare?

Working for the next six months. Then, we’ll start recording, and hopefully start recording album number two by the end of the year.

Is there anyone you have in mind you’d like to work with for the next album?

I have two people in mind, but I think I need to do a lot more writing before I really go into really serious production. Any names that are mentioned will have to be between me and them. I don’t want to look silly.

Adele 'too emotional' to sing Winehouse tribute

Adele 'too emotional' to sing Winehouse tribute

George Michael has revealed that singing a tribute song to Amy Winehouse was "too much" for Adele.

The legendary singer approached Adele asking her to perform a song in honour of her late friend Amy at a fundraiser concert last November.

At the time Amy had been deceased for a little over three months and Adele, who attended the same school as the Back to Black crooner, was too sad to sing.

"We communicated by email and initially what I wanted was for us to sing Love Is A Losing Game by Amy Winehouse at the Elizabeth Taylor tribute I did at Covent Garden," George told Heart 106.2 radio station during an interview.

"She was basically telling me she couldn't. She tried to put one of [Winehouse's] songs in her own set and she couldn't even get through it. I think they knew each other from the BRIT School.

"They're obviously musical goddesses but I think the tragedy would have been too much for her."

George respects Adele's artistry and would relish working with her in the future, after the pregnant star gives birth.

"I would love to do a track with her," he said.

"I think she has no plans other than to have a baby right now and I think she wants to lay low for a while and gather herself and to then come back to us relatively soon with some more music and I'd love to be involved when that happens. She's lovely."

Find me someone like you: Leona Lewis poaches Adele's producer for her make-or-break third album

Find me someone like you: Leona Lewis poaches Adele's producer for her make-or-break third album

As Leona Lewis gazed at her TV and saw Adele scooping her six Grammys, while standing beside a tall, good-looking chap, she thought* to herself: “I want someone like you.”

And now she has him.

Following relatively disappointing sales of her last album, The X Factor winner has poached Adele’s fave producer, Fraser T Smith, for her make-or-break third album.

Taking no chances, the determined star, 27, has also jettisoned half her former team, too.

I’m told: “The Syco label has invested a lot in Leona and cannot afford a flop album.

"The execs are fully supportive of their most lucrative X Factor winner and have taken their time choosing a crack team for her.

"Fraser has produced some massive songs and has something of a Midas touch. He is a great signing.

“The label simply can’t be sentimental, so some of those credited on the last album, Echo, are absent this time around.

“But Leona has been extremely hands-on, too, and is really excited about the results. This could be her biggest seller yet.”

The record, provisionally titled Glasshouse, is due out in the autumn. It is her third studio album and her first since 2009.

While Echo was critically acclaimed, it failed to match the commercial success of her debut, Spirit, which peaked at No.1 in nine countries and

top five in a further eight. It has now sold over seven million copies worldwide.

Brit Fraser, 41, who has also worked with Tinchy Stryder, Taio Cruz and Ellie Goulding, won the Grammy for Best Album with Adele for 21 in February, after producing and co-writing US No.1 Set Fire to the Rain.

Speaking about his latest collaboration, he says: “It’s been amazing. People have preconceptions of what Leona is, so you want to keep that essence and keep pushing the boundaries.”

Adele declines Winehouse tribute show

Adele declines Winehouse tribute show

Singer Adele has turned down an offer to perform in an Amy Winehouse tribute show as she still had not come to terms with Winehouse' death.

Singer George Michael said Adele has turned down his offer.

Adele was still shocked with the death of Winehouse, who died because of alcohol poisoning in 2011, contactmusic.com quoted the 49-year-old singer as saying.

"We communicated by email... and initially what I wanted was for us to sing 'Love is a losing game' by Amy Winehouse at the Elizabeth Taylor tribute I did at Covent Garden," Michael said on a radio show in London.

"She told me that she tried to put one of (Winehouse's) songs in her own set and she couldn't even get through it. I think they knew each other from the Brits School.

"They're obviously musical goddesses but I think the tragedy would have been too much for her," he added.

Michael says he would love to do a track with the 24-year-old.

Adele Father Mark Evans Wants To Be Back In Her Life!

Adele Father Mark Evans Wants To Be Back In Her Life!

Adele ‘rolling in the deep’ singer will be reunion with his estranged father Mark Evans? But, Adele’s father wants back in the singer’s life after abandoning her at age 3 to see his grandchild.
According to the sources – Adele’s father (50-year-old) has publicly pleaded for the chance to reconcile with the star ahead of the birth of her first child. Mark Evans walked out on the ‘Someone Like You’ star, when she was just 3-years old and has had a turbulent relationship with her since, but he has now uttered hope of becoming a big part of his grandchild’s life.

Florence Welch in her element outdoors

Florence Welch in her element outdoors

Like Adele, she’s tall and British, with a big voice and a singular name. Like Adele, she’s scored two hit albums. But, unlike Ms. Rolling in the Deep, the frontwoman of Florence + the Machine may be one of the hardest-gigging women on either side of the Atlantic.

In April, Florence played both weekends of the massive Coachella festival in Southern California. This month only threat of serious injury to her voice stopped Welch from playing a pair of European festivals. Friday, she’ll perform at Burnaby’s Deer Lake Park.

“I enjoy playing outdoors because I like being with the elements. The wind and the sky become your set,” Florence Welch said recently from Davis, Calif. “The intimacy of indoors is nice, too. I like both.”

Florence has been hailed as pop’s most striking nightingale.

She can sing soft and tender or she can wail like a wolf. There’s good reason her 2009 debut disc was titled “Lungs” — her lusciously bravura voice strikes with the force of a hurricane. Her rich, dreamy sound was perfect for singing about coffins, werewolves and kisses.

Welch showed the depth and range of her voice on her recent CD/DVD of “MTV Unplugged” with stripped down versions of selections from her two studio albums as well as covers of 1960s soul icon Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness” and the Johnny Cash/June Carter hit “Jackson,” with rocker Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

The Redding classic is her all-time favorite song. “I’m obsessed with it,” she said. “I used to watch him perform that live on YouTube on the Stax Soul Tour. On this one tour I did, I’d watch it every time before I’d go onstage. This mix of a tender song but he puts in something so primal and aggressive -- it’s just so perfect.”

But she didn’t try to get whipped up into a frenzy like Otis did. “It just didn’t fit me,” she said. “I just had to take it back and slow it down.”

Raised on “Grease,” punk

The famously red-headed Welch actually grew up a brunette in London, the daughter of an advertising executive and an art historian. She was raised on musicals, punk rock and Stevie Nicks.

“I was always singing but my family was always telling me to shut up,” she said. “I used to do a lot of singing in my bedroom to musicals, pretending to be Sandy from ‘Grease’ and that kind of thing.”

Welch dropped out of art college and formed a band with keyboardist Isabella “Machine” Summers that evolved into Florence + the Machine.

After the band released its debut “Lungs,” the song “Dog Days Are Over” (co-written by Welch and Summers) was used in such TV series as “Gossip Girl,” “Covert Affairs” and “Glee” and in the theatrical trailer for the Julia Roberts film “Eat Pray Love.” F+M worked the various media, performing “Dog Days” on the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and recording “Heavy in Your Arms” for the soundtrack to the blockbuster film “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”

The momentum continued last year when Florence (sans the Machine) sang on the Grammys and the Oscars.

“Those things have had a huge impact on my career, especially in America. It’s such a vast place,” Welch explained. “I think I got lucky. I have a choice in what I attach my music to, and I’ve never done anything that I didn’t feel comfortable with.”

Last fall, Florence + the Machine released Ceremonials, another collection of bombastic pop that sounds bigger and deeper than Lungs. It has delivered two radio favorites, “What the Water Gave Me” and “Shake It Out.”

“Ceremonials is more thought-out” than the first album, Welch said. “I definitely had a lot more clear idea of what I wanted to do musically. Some people say this record is more introspective. There was desperation to the first record, and this one has more elements of light and shades in it.”

Despite her powerful, dramatic performances, Welch, 25, like the 23-year-old Adele, seems a bit uncomfortable onstage between songs.

“For me, music takes you somewhere, and it’s almost like a shield, like an armor,” she said. “You can be protected by it, and the song surrounds you. You are a different animal, as it were, and when the music stops and the song finishes, I can just go back to being myself. And myself is someone who is not used to talking to large crowds.”

Adele & Boyfriend 'More In Love' After Baby News

Adele & Boyfriend 'More In Love' After Baby News

One happy family...

Adele is said to be more in love than ever with boyfriend Simon Konecki after discovering she's pregnant with their baby.

The Grammy award-winning singer announced the joyful news last month, revealing that she's carrying the couple's first child. Sources close to Adele and Simon say the new addition to their family has renewed their love for one another.

"It's true love for Adele and Simon. They are committed to each other and ready to be a family," a source told Closer magazine.

"Adele feels that falling pregnant is like hitting the jackpot. She said, 'I've been on a high for a year with my work and personal life, but the best is yet to come.'"

Earlier this week, it was claimed that the pair have been arguing about whether or not to find out the sex of the baby before the birth in September.

Congrats to the happy couple!

From Adele to Gotye to Lumineers: How Triple A Radio Is Breaking Acts

From Adele to Gotye to Lumineers: How Triple A Radio Is Breaking Acts

See the video

The niche format (whose nickname is shorthand for "adult album alternative") nurtured the top Billboard Hot 100 title of 2011, Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." The song spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Nielsen BDS-based Triple A chart - the first ranking on which it appeared before crossing to pop, adult and even R&B and Latin radio.

Triple A also championed Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, which, earlier this year led Triple A for 13 weeks and the Hot 100 for eight, making it a front-runner for this year's biggest Hot 100 hit.

Triple A likewise shone on Nielsen SoundScan's recently-released midyear sales tallies, where Adele's 21 ranked as the top-selling album of the first half of 2012 (3.7 million units) and Gotye's smash earned top-selling digital song honors (5.5 million downloads).

The success of "Somebody" especially underscores the format's swelling acceptance of new artists. The song's Triple A command began an active 23-week streak of artists reigning on their first visits to the survey. Following "Somebody," Of Monsters and Men's "Little Talks" led for four weeks and Alabama Shakes' "Hold On" ruled for one. As of this week, the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" has spent five weeks on top. Since the chart launched the week of Jan. 20, 1996, never before had four rookie acts reached No. 1 consecutively.

Other debut singles finding success at the format include Imagine Dragons' "It's Time" (at No. 2 this week), Ed Sheeran's "The A Team" (No. 3) and Grouplove's "Tongue Tied" (No. 6).
The domination of fresh Triple A blood challenges the format's reputation as a haven for rock acts with decades-long discographies. Just one artist appears on this week's Triple A ranking whose Billboard chart history predates the '90s: Bonnie Raitt. A year ago this week, there were three (Paul Simon, Lenny Kravitz and the Cars). Five years ago this week, there were five.

Why a more favorable reception of somebodies that we previously didn't know?

Cumulus San Francisco director of FM programming Dennis Constantine, who oversees triple A KFOG, credits the impact of the digital era on consumer behavior in aiding new artists' growth. "More than ever, music is about songs. More people are buying downloads of individual songs than buying a full album. So, we're finding new, creative songs from unknown artists."

Triple A programmers and label promotion executives cite social media as helping demystify new artists. "The Internet, mobile phone, Facebook and Twitter have accelerated familiarity to listeners who use these portals for music discovery," says Lauren MacLeash, PD of Clear Channel-owned KTCZ Minneapolis.

Social media have buoyed promotion of Sheeran's debut single. "We could only get Ed to Nashville on a Monday and all the major venues there were sold out," Atlantic Records director of Triple A promotion Brian Corona recalls. "With (Tuned In-owned) WRLT's relationship with 3rd and Lindsley Bar and Grill, we were able to schedule a 6 p.m. showcase. Through social media messaging, when arrived at sound check at 3, there were already more than 200 people there, camped out and lined up around the block."

The building popularity of multi-artist festivals likewise plays into triple A's riches of new talent.

"SXSW this year was huge for the Lumineers," says Dualtone director of promotions Lori Kampa. "I was lucky enough to be at some of the band's first headlining shows afterward and fans were singing along to almost every word." Additionally citing synchs, including Fox's "American Idol," Kampa says that when Dualtone began promoting "Ho Hey" to radio, awareness of the group was already high. "It was a record that made sense for programmers to step out on because we had built amazing success that continued to grow."

At its best, Chris Mays, PD of Alpha's KINK Portland, Ore., muses, triple A programming is a "balancing act" of the best new artists and old favorites: "How can you resist playing the Black Keys alongside a classic Rolling Stones song?"

MacLeash says that the current success of Triple A's newer acts ultimately promises benefits going forward.

"Popular music comes in cycles. The pendulum is swinging in triple A's favor," she says. "Adele, Gotye, Jason Mraz and others being accepted by top 40 means that the young end is into the new music we play. Long-term, that's so important to our survival."

The best is yet to come By Adele

The best is yet to come By Adele

Despite an incredibly successful few years, Adele thinks the "best is yet to come".

The Rolling in the Deep singer, who recently announced that she and boyfriend Simon Konecki were expecting their first child,  reportedly feels like she has "hit the jackpot" with all the positive developments in her life this year.

A source told Closer magazine: "It's true love for Adele and Simon. They are committed to each other and ready to be a family.

"Adele feels that falling pregnant is like hitting the jackpot. She said, 'I've been on a high for a year with my work and personal life, but the best is yet to come.'"

The source added that Adele was thrilled that her baby bump has become more visible and is planning to indulge.

"Adele told friends she's so happy now there's a proper bump. She's joking she wants to eat shepherd's pie until the cows come home," said the source.

The singer also reportedly spent £35 000 in audio and lighting for her baby's nursery because "she’s sparing no expense".

A source said: "Adele might have a reputation for being a bit of a spendthrift but when it comes to her baby she's sparing no expense.

"She is building state-of-the-art nurseries in all her homes. She's having bespoke wallpaper made and it's costing a fortune with climate control and cameras so she can see everything on her laptop.

"She's spending £35 000 on the lighting and sound system alone."

Adele (24) revealed the news of her pregnancy to fans on her website last month.

She wrote: "I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.

"I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we're over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx."

A baby had clearly been on the singer's wish-list. Discussing her future with Vogue earlier this year, Adele said: "So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy. And then I don’t know what I’ll do. Get married. Have some kids. Plant a nice vegetable patch."
